THE GIBSON GUITAR GRAND SLAM JAM TENNIS SHOOTOUT
RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 5 IN AUSTIN;
AGASSI, COURIER, & SAMPRAS TO SHOW TENNIS FANS HOW THE GAME IS REALLY PLAYED
(Austin, Texas) – The Gibson Guitar Grand Slam Jam Tennis Shootout, previously scheduled for a September 15 date, has been rescheduled for Friday, October 5 at 7PM at the Frank Erwin Center. This October’s Tennis Shootout, presented by the Frank Erwin Center and brought to you by Fox 7, Porsche, Samsung, Starburst® Fruit Chews, & Barton Creek Resort will feature tennis greats Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, & Pete Sampras, plus other guests to be announced. This unique event, only in Austin, is an opportunity for Central Texans to see tennis players of such high caliber strut their stuff on the court and is also an opportunity to support a great cause.
The Grand Slam Jam Foundation will donate their proceeds to benefit the Hope Foundation, a cancer research organization based in San Antonio, Texas. The Hope Foundation is dedicated to a cancer-free future by supporting the largest clinical cancer trials organization in the world – the Southwest Oncology Group.
Andre Agassi, currently ranked #2 in the 2001 Champions Race, is a legendary tennis player who’s one of the most widely-recognized names in tennis. 31-year old Agassi lends a backhand to support a cause that has affected him in a most personal way- both his mother and sister have been affected by cancer. Agassi has won Grand Slam titles at all four Grand Slams, not an easy triumph for any professional tennis player.
Jim Courier, host of The Gibson Guitar Grand Slam Jam Tennis Shootout, is an accomplished tennis pro whose career highlights include: winning 4 Grand Slams, 2 French Open titles, 2 Australian Open titles, reaching the finals & quarterfinals at Wimbledon, & finals at the U.S. Open. According to Courier, this special event, “gives Andre, Pete, and myself a chance to entertain tennis fans in Austin while supporting the efforts of the Hope Foundation. I am deeply grateful to Pete and Andre for donating their time to this uniquely Austin event.”
Included in this year’s event is tennis great Pete Sampras. Sampras joins Courier & Agassi in this year’s Grand Slam Jam Tennis Shootout as the all-time leading Grand Slam title-holder. Sampras holds 17 Grand Slam titles including 7 Wimbledon singles titles.
